Marsha
You are hitting on the points that Carl Sagan brought up in his book "
the demon haunted world: a candle in the dark." This is the third
millennium and when the Red Sox win, we hear of them overcoming the
"Curse of the bambino."
Religious or otherwise, the drumming down of a nation, a generation, a
culture is rather disturbing. 25% of Americans believe that the sun
rotates around the earth. Good luck explaining to them new science.
Religion is taken on faith. No thinking is required. That's the fact
jack, and so it goes.
I too have a problem with people that find stealing is wrong, but not
because it is universally thought of as wrong, but because God says so.
As for the return of religious zeal My theory is the following:
Ousama BinLadden said chose your weapon, mine is God. We want to show him
that our God is better than his.
If someone brandishes a sword, you get one, if the have a gun, you get
one, maybe a machine gun. Now it's God, you get any higher so you just
have to show that yours is better and is on your side.
Just as what a boxer says after winning the match and he is through
pummeling hi opponent " and I want to thank the
lord......................."
Just remember God loves a winner
