    Hi Steve:

    > Hi Platt. What about Static Quality?

Good question. Welcome to the group. The Quality I had in mind while
doing the epigrams is the pre-metaphysical Quality, similar to the
intimate Steve that only you, being Steve, will ever know, (DQ) but who
can only be described in bits and pieces -- homo sapiens, male, six feet
tall, blond hair, green eyes, married, three children, high IQ,
    inquisitive mind, rock guitarist, etc.(SQ).

If that doesn't make sense, try Pirsig's explanation of pre-metaphysical
    Quality:

"Quality is a direct experience independent of and prior to intellectual
abstractions. Quality is indivisible, undefinable and unknowable in the
sense that there is a knower and a known, but a metaphysics can be none of
these things. Quality is a the primary empirical reality of the world."
    (Lila, 5)

Another description of pre-metaphysical Quality by Pirsig, although
Quality really can't be described: (The SOM logical mind is full of such
    Catch 22's)

"So what I did is transfer that exercise into the classroom, having the
students judge four papers day after day until they saw that they knew
what quality is. They never had to say in any conceptual way what kind of
object quality is but they understood that when you see it you know it.
Quality is real even though it cannot be defined." (SODV paper).

    Does this answer your question?

    Regards,
    Platt
