Hi Joe --

Actually, in the time of Aquinas there was little difference between faith
and reason, and it wasn't until Descartes that reason became the cornerstone
of the philosophical approach to knowledge.
On this point the unnamed author of the website known as "The View From
Chaos Manor" writes:
"The Age of Faith ended when Acquinas tried to reconcile Reason and Faith,
and said explicitly that if reason and revelation are in irreconcilable
conflict there is something wrong with our understanding of the revelation.
That brought us to this century. Now all revelation is rejected as
unreasonable."

I don't know exactly what point you're trying to make here, Joe. If it's
that the "rational" creature sometimes behaves "irrationally", you'll get no
disagreement from me. Keep in mind, however, that if it were not for this
irascible creature's ability to reason, we would not have the means to print
books, fly airplanes, cure syphilis, predict hurricanes, or communicate on
the Internet.
On balance, I'd say the positives outweigh the negatives, wouldn't you?
Regards,
Ham
