I think this is the point DMB is trying to make. Sometimes big words and
concepts get in the way of seeing the truth. Philosophy is the life we live.
Matt:
And again, why are the books we read not part of our lives?
Why do "big words and concepts get in the way of seeing the truth"? Who set
this down as the truth? Why is the "truth" simple? Why is it seen?
Why are the same things not said of poetry? People often think of poetry as
being opaque and difficult as opposed to the clarity of common speech. Why
is philosophy that is difficult not thought of as being analogous to poetry,
as trying to expand our horizons, rather than being denigrated for
obscurantism? Why is the painter who had a plan for his painting not a
"good painter"? Why is the photographer who pays a lot of attention to the
film and lenses he uses not "out to capture the character"?
DMB thinks I'm not talking about life. I think DMB's cutting out part of
our lives. I think he's trying to circumscribe what is appropriate for
philosophy, when philosophy is just that kind of thing where everything is
appropriate if you make it appropriate. Kinda' like defining Quality. By
defining it, you're limiting it.
Stop trying to limit philosophy.
