Whoa. Stop right there. If you had read "The Road to Serfdom" you
would know that Hayek's thesis, borne out by history, says that
Central Economic Planning (CEP) inevitably leads to brutal
dictatorships. Thus, any discussion of CEP must include the examples
of such dictatorships.

And if you'd read "American Power and the New Mandarins " you'd be
disabused of your ahistorical "understanding" of the Vietnam War.
Good grief. Is this your idea of a philosophical discussion, an
appeal to authority without even bothering to present the authority's
evidence and argument?
platt 7-12-05:
This from someone who in every other post appeals to the authority of
Hanoi Chomsky!
msh 7-12-05:
Please provide a single example of my answering a question by saying
"Read Chomsky." I've often said that anyone who criticizes Chomsky's
ideas (or anyone else's ideas) has an intellectual responsibility to
be familiar with his work. I've also developed my own ideas with
references to Chomsky's well-documented work, as well as to the well-
document work of dozens of other progressive thinkers. This is
hardly the same as an appeal to authority.

The rest [of msh's post] isn't worth spending time to respond. All
sorts of feints, dodges, distractions and personal insults to avoid
telling us how you define and would bring about "The Moral Society."
msh 7-12-05:
It's not my task (or right) to single-handedly bring about the Moral
Society, even if I could. My position is that a more moral society
will evolve naturally if we work to remove the physical and
psychological impediments blocking the vast majority of people from
realizing their full human potential.
To this end, I've argued for specific actions, including:
prohibiting wealth from unduly influencing domestic and foreign
policy; prohibiting wealth (and power) from dominating the
propagation of information; and prohibiting the privatization of life-
essential products and services.
So far, you've failed to demonstrate how such actions are
antithetical to the moral underpinnings of the Metaphysics of
Quality.
