    Paul: I think Ptolemaic patterns worked on the basis that the earth was
    spherical, not flat. But anyway, Copernicus, for example, didn't "work
    around" the geocentric model, he replaced it. Many of the patterns from the
    Ptolemaic model may have survived but I can't see why you insist that they
    were all kept in the heliocentric model.
