IMO what Pirsig is saying when he equates pure experience with Quality is
the same as what the great masters of every tradition have said -- that
"your everyday and ordinary consciousness is the Tao" (reality). You don't
have to do anything like unearth you attachments to be enlightened. You
    already are.

Hi Platt. I'm with Sam. It seems to me there is an 'attachment' to work on
if it is none other than recognizing what you just said. So, how do we go
about that? I'm sitting here contemplating your post and I don't seem any
    closer to enlightenment.

There seems to be a long way and a short way. The long way consists of
replacing old static patterns that we don't give much thought to (our
attachments) with new static patterns (ie, replacing old habits of thought
with new) in a tenacious grind it out type fashion.

The short way is exemplified by the Zen Koan.

Is either way superior (ie, of higher quality) than the other? What are the
risks (degeneration / bad trips)? What are the benefits?

Dynamic Quality can lead us in two directions; further evolution or
degeneration. So maybe DQ for its own sake is not the best goal, but rather
higher quality latches, ie, higher quality static patterns.

    Live well,
    Steve
