    Nice one Mark (Maxwell)

Interesting after almost no responses to the original sentiment (of
compassion for those affected by the hurricane) how the social
patterns of the aftermath take centre-stage (as they have done in the
    world's media).

Actually, I'm with Platt on one thing - if a totalitarian government,
ordering an evacuation is the best alternative, I'm not convinced.
What it does show for me is the US ignorance (skilled incompetence -
hypocrisy in other words) of the social issues it has stored up, in
its surprise and delay at reacting to them. It's not that the US
government is incapable of organising a piss-up in a brewery, but that
it chose not to. As Mark says, the "holiday is over" the Bush
administration (and Platt) are fair game on this one I'm afraid. What
do you value Mr Bush ?

It's another cloud with a silver lining - a dynamic disaster with a
potentially net positive outcome, who knows ? (For me this is the way
in which DQ can be said always to be progressive - every problem is an
"opportunity". In the evolutiuonary model, every mutation is random,
but each holds the opportunity for progress up the MoQ layers.)

    Ian
