Hi Peter,
I just finished an Alan Watts book called, 'What is Tao'. There's a
chapter explaining the I-Ching. It's fascinating because Watts tries to
explain the Eastern point-of-view as compared to the Western point-of-view.
So I thought I'd check it out. It seems right to think that my own static
p-o-v might be challenged by the Eastern p-o-v. Besides, the Tao/Zen
philosophy that everything-is-connected-to-everything feels the more
correct perspective. It's odd, though, that instead of trying to feel what
I'm thinking, I'm trying to transform what I feel into thought. I'm not
sure that makes sense.
The title with subtitle is, 'BLINK: The Power of Thinking Without
Thinking', and it's about intuition. The book documents where intuition is
more accurate than rational thinking, especially in social situations, but
other areas as well. Gladwell also documents where intuition is likely to
have pitfalls, like when we hold strong unconscious prejudices. It's a
great book, both well documented and well written.
