The Pirsig description is not mine.
As for your comment about Rep. vs. Marxist, here is what i have to say to
either camp.
If you don't take care of the poor out of generosity, goodwill, kindness,
guilt trip, religion or what ever social drive you chose, you need to do
it out of self preservation. If you don't They will build a guillotine.
As for the left, yes it's good to help someone, but just like that twenty
some year old who is still living at home, you may need to kick them out
of the house for their own good, even for a while so they see what the
world is like. it's called tough love. Yes if the worst happen you will
let them back. ( At least for a while)
It has been proven time and time again, that moderation wins. It's
natures law. You can't build a house on stilts on a beach and don't
expect a hurricane every 10-20 years. But it's man's arrogance to see the
past, to cherish the present and to predict the future that gets us into
hot water.
