Mike:
If you read ZMM and Lila, and then The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test, it
becomes fairly clear that Kesey's psychedelic movement marks the
widespread rediscovery of DQ. One of Pirsig's greatest insights, for
me, is that the movement failed because instead of using the
rediscovery to form new and better SQ, a general view of SQ as evil
led the majority of them to languish in degeneracy. This just shows
the danger of jumping from one pole to the other.
I'm not claiming that all users of 'shrooms, acid and peyote are
rediscovering DQ. Obviously many are just blowing their minds. But,
well... don't dismiss psychedelics as purely degenerate before you've
had some first-hand experience :) You wouldn't want to base your
opinions on ignorant prejudices, would you?
Regards,
Mike
