Hi Platt,
Platt:
Not that I doubt you, but trippers all seem to have in common a bond of
tripping out. At least all those here who justify taking drugs appear to
agree that it's an "illuminating" experience and thus feel a kinship with
one another. They even insist on having Pirsig become one of their "in"
enlightened group. But, I could be wrong.
Rebecca:
Nope, you're pretty right. But I think you're missing an important point. I
can talk to another 'tripper' all I want about our common experiences, but
it's really no different than talking to someone about the joys of
skydiving, or a really great concert you both attended.
The experience itself is only as cathartic as you make it. Sometimes a drug
trip can be like a touchstone for change in your life. That change is
something within yourself and for yourself, not for anyone else because that
'trip' was a journey you took on your own.
You need not identify yourself with any particular community or tradition to
be a Christian, just as you need not identify yourself as part of an 'in'
enlightened group in order to have been changed by a drug experience.
Platt:
I've never had a bad trip experiencing DQ. I guess that's why I don't feel
the need to go on a mushroom binge. But, that's just me, a devotee of the
beauty road to the big Self.
Rebecca:
When you're at it, bad trips occur when you try desperately to NOT
experience DQ.
If you don't feel the need for that kind of change in your life, or you
don't feel that it's an appropriate way for you to find a change you are
seeking, then by all means stay away from drugs. They are not for everyone.
They are a choice you make. There is no NEED to take drugs to find
enlightenment. There are many paths up the mountain.
Rebecca
