I might be the ONLY Wilber fan around here. I only have a few of his
20-something books. "A BRIEF HISTORY OF EVERYTHING" and "A THEORY OF
EVERYTHING" will both give you the big picture without bogging you down in
detail. I especially like his "INTEGRAL PSYCHOLOGY" for the way it
summarizes the work of so many others and "THE MARRIAGE OF SENSE AND SOUL"
is really great. "SEX, ECOLOGY, SPIRITUALITY" is great if you want the
details. Its a fat one with tons of end notes. That was has really angered
neo-pagans, eco-feminists, nature mystics and the like. He's pretty critical
of Tarnas in there too. But you'd probably do better to stop in at a good
book store and just look them over. He tends to expand and refine his ideas
and so you'll find lots of overlap and such. If you can't decide between two
apparently good choices, just pick the newer one.
I should also tell you that Karen Armstrong is scheduled to be on TALK OF
THE NATION on Monday. If your local public radio station does not carry the
program you can listen on-line at http://cpr.org or very likely at npr.org
It starts at noon Mountain Standard Time. You could even call the show and
talk to her, if you like. I hope to hear it and might even call the show.
Hugs and kisses,
dmb
