Mike,
Mark said nuttily:
Hi Mike, I'm not interested in Sam's ideas.
Sam Norton is something of a religious nut case who doesn't want the MOQ to
be accepted as it stands. Sam does want a philosophy that describes an
intellectual level challenging the authority divinity.
You're not a religious at all are you Mike?
Although Sam argues for self determination, self determination in his view
either saves your soul or it does not. God said that and Sam agrees with
scripture as revelation.
I asked Sam the straight question: "Are you trying to save your soul"? and
he answered that he was trying to save his soul.
As an intellectual, i'm not going to accept that crap.
Matt:
If you were kinda' taken aback by Mark's self-righteous indignation at
somebody believing something other than what he believes, then don't worry,
you're much like the rest of us. Mark is something like a mirror-image of
the old-time fundamentalist preachers who don't want to hear anything but
their own ideas. You get that from the Enlightenment, with sanctimonious
atheists attacking theists with what one could only call religious fervor
and zealous glee.
Thankfully, that kind of attitude towards other people, as you probably
became aware of after just a few weeks around the MD, swings free from their
actual philosophical or religious beliefs. Mark's a jerk. I agree with him
that Bo is wrong, but I don't agree with the way Mark treats him. Its
absolutely shameless. Fortunately for everyone, Sam is as thoughtful and
well-spoken as they come. I'm not religious, but I like talking to Sam more
than anyone else.
It's not "religous nut case" we should be worried about, but just "nut
case." Again fortunately, they aren't that hard to see. Being conversable
goes a long way towards proving you're not a nut case. And Sam's as
conversable as they come.
Matt
