    Hi Sam, David, and All,

    On 10 March 2003 2:04 AM 5:42AM Sam writes:

"Clearly theology derives from the study of God; that is its traditional
    meaning."

joe: Theology (Theos + logos) seems to me to be a study of the stries about
God, revelation. As another example Astrology (Astros + logos) is stories
about the heavenly bodies, again revelation. I think revelation can be
endlessly explained. The work that Matt has done helping us understand the
words of Rorty like "final vocabulary" and "recontextualization" seem to
describe this endless explanation. As an aside, the pomo schtick seems to
be 'reveal your dogma to me.'

"How to judge when philosophy is being used for religious purposes (ie being
subverted from its proper role) and when it is being used to derive logos
    from mythos?"

joe: 'philosophy' and 'proper role' in the same sentence evoke a history of
literary endeavor. If I am going to think and write about something
intuitive is this about revelation of philosophy? I guess as long as it is
not about God it is philosophy. I intuit the existence of God. The line of
the 'proper role' of philosophy is a muddied line. Aritotle proposed
metaphysics as being the end of that line. To me this is a whole can of
worms. I thought "Church/State separation" was a good name. I am sorry for
putting my halfpenny in, but it is an interesting subject that You and David
    are pursuing.

    Joe
