Davor,
Thanks for the link. It looks interesting. I have been researching models
in complex systems for several years. I am very intrugued by emergence.
So, I am looking forward to reading the paper. But, I am particularly
interested in Wolfram, right now. His book has been anticipated by many in
the community of complex systems studies for some time. It is a large book
and emergence is mentioned only once and only briefly. He has a very
unique idea on complexity and he thinks he has discovered a new way to do
science. He thinks his discoveries will change the way we see the world.
He thinks what he presents in his new book is equivalent to Newton or
Einstein in terms of their impacts on science, philosophy and mathematics.
It is hard to penetrate all he has written, so I am withholding judgement
for now. But, I was struck by some of the similarities between his ideas
on percieving complex patterns in his cellular automata graphics and
Pirsigs discussions on quality in ZMM.
