This is where I think DMB is arguing for two contradictory things. On the
one hand he wants to say that religion and metaphysics have 'profound
distinctions' (with Christian thinkers like Aquinas on one side of the
equation, and philosophers like Plato on the other), yet on the other hand
he argues that "there was nothing secular about Plato's world" and brings in
Kingsley to reinforce the point that you cannot understand Plato's
philosophy without also understanding his religion.
Isn't this called wanting to eat your cake and have it?
