Hi Bob,
Since you value science and scientists I presume you also value
curiosity and openmindedness, two characteristics that have helped
make science such a potent force in our understanding of the world
today. Given your admiration of those values, it's surprising you have
closed your mind to even considering reading "Lila." I think you'll be
both reassured and challenged by Pirsig's ideas about science as well
as many other matters outside science's purview. So I'd like to add my
voice to your wife's and others here to urge you to give "Lila" and the
Metaphysics of Quality a fair reading. As Pirsig said:
"Real science and real philosophy are not guided by preconceptions of
what subjects are important to consider." (26)
