Likewise. Your leaning towards real examples and the
MOQ itself encouraged me to really study Pirsig's
words again, instead of trying to categorise and
accomodate his thinking based on my old philosophy
degree and subsequent reading of authors with similar
ideas. Bohm, Barfield, Capra etc. all have great and
similar ideas and the urge to synthesise is strong.

Indeed, synthesis can be useful and even enjoyable, it
is analogous to introducing friends to each other
because you know they'll get along - but it can become
the whole thing, and the process of synthesis seems to
take something important away from each idea as well.

In fact, I'm thinking of leaving my understanding of
the MOQ where it is for now. Despite a lot of
criticisms, I'm happy with it. If it is wrong, I will
find out in time by applying it to my experience.

As Pirsig said, there is a time for investigation and
a time for conclusion. I am about to become a father
very soon, so I'm sure I'm about to discover a lot
more about Quality than any book can ever tell me!

My thinking regarding culture and social

Thanks for considering my ideas on the MOQ. I think
you'll be the only person on the forum who thinks my
    understanding of the social-intellectual distinction
is of value though, so be prepared to be challenged!
And of course, I could be wrong (whatever that means?)

Feel free to use whatever you wish, I'll be interested
to see what reaction your essay will get. Look forward
    to reading it.

    cheers

    Paul
