Intellect is a myth, rationality is a myth, philosophy is a myth, freedom is myth, free will is a myth, God is a myth, the MOQ is a myth, it is myths all the way through. As Nietzsche said myths are the creative force of a community

I too believe Pirsig himself was closer to Nietzsche, than any hair-splitting intellectual rationalisations of the MoQ.

Totally agree. Davor's echoing the important post-Nietzschean slogan "It's X, all the way down," (where "X" stands for anything from myths to socialization to language to texts). There's a good section in Christopher Norris's Deconstruction: Theory and Practice that is devoted to a brief interpretation of ZMM. On a seperate note, being as Norris is a well-respected literary theorist (though I disagree with him on many points) and that particular book is used in many intro classes and is generally highly regarded, I think it's fair to say that Pirsig's ideas are being filtered into the academic high echelon, at least in some small way.
And in the way I would want them to be, to boot. I get all the luck.
