On 13 July 2003 6:04 AM Platt writes to Pi:

    Platt:
You've put your finger squarely on the nut of the problem. Until that
infinite-regress paradox is addressed by each participant, intellectual
descriptions of the intellectual level will continue to go around in
    circles without end.

I have yet to find anyone who has made a clear distinction between
intellectual patterns that belong in the intellectual level and those that
don't. (Intuitive intellect is an oxymoron.). If there are intellectual
patterns that don't belong, where do they go instead?

I have also yet to find anyone who has offered a better definition of
intellect than Pirsig's "manipulation of symbols." (Since that is the
author's definition, I take it to be "Q-intellect.") Anyone have a better
    definition?

    (Intuitive intellect is an oxymoron.)?

joe: after reading Lila, and ZMM I accept that I can and do know the
undefined dq. How? My actions are undefined. St. Paul said: "My own
actions bewilder me; what I do is not what I wish to do, but something which
    I hate." Romans 7, 15

My existence is undefined: I am inorganioc, organic, social, intellectual,
all levels of existence in a moral order. P.D. Ouspensky in his book "In
Search of the Miraculous" p 213 concludes: "'The three dimensionality even
of one and the same body can be different'. And this last point seems to me
to be connected with what G. calls the 'principle of relativity.' His
principle of relativity has nothing in common with the principle of
relativity in mechanics or with Einstein's principle of relativity. It is
the same again as in "The New Model of the Universe"; (joe: another book by
Ouspensky) it is the principle of the relativity of existence."

Pirsig in his example of the dq 'motion' and 'direction' of the sq train
leaves dq undefined. The train is the pattern sq latching dq.

Purpose (direction of motion), existence, dynamic quality are all undefined.
    I know them! How?

From Frank Herbert's discussion of consciousness in "Destination Void" I add
threshold control in a DNA awareness in each individual to buffer unlimited
    experience of the 'now'.

The connection bewteen the knower and the event is not through radiation
(Intuitive intellect is an oxymoron) but through emanation. My awareness
does not seem to be made of parts, but is a whole which can be touched and
    filled instantaneously.

In my awareness this does not seem to be unanswerable. I have posited an
analogy between the gravity field generated by a planet to my awareness. I
suppose my awareness is also analogous to the continuum generated by a
galaxy. I wonder if the galaxy is aware of every part instantaneously?
    How?

I will use 'conscience' as an example of my three brains. In some way at
certain moments I seem to divide within myself. One part of me tells
another part of me that I have done well or ill. At these times moral
orders are intuitively known. I am aware of 'intuitive intellect' and I
know what I am doing. At these moments I am aware of 'intuitive purpose',
and 'intuitive existence.' I can end my life, but that does not mean I am
in control of myself. My conscience does not follow a constitution.

"If I can destroy something, I am in controil of it." I first saw this
formulation in Frank Herbert's "Dune". He used this principle in his story
as an explanation of how political power is transferred. The Fremen could
destroy the spice which the universe needed for a better life. They had
more right to Imperial power so the Emperor resigned in favor of the Prophet
    of the Fremen, Paul.

To me it seems that war is based on this formulation: "If I can destroy you,
I am in control of you!" Iraq is going to prove difficult! Alexander the
Great was in error! My ability to destroy another ends when the other is
destroyed. I destroy because I think I am superior. Ghandi sought to
    change political leadership differently.
