Perhaps "ingrained" is the wrong word, but offhand I can't think of another
for something that is not absolute, but is not static.

To add to Platt's comment on perception presupposing a perceiver and a
perceived, I might add that description presupposes a describer and a
described. Pirsig has liberated the S/O divide from being seen as an
absolute dichotomy, but doing so by calling it a static intellectual pattern
misses its role as our current form of DQ/SQ.
