    Hi all

Thanks for the kind words! A little explanation is needed..

You may have noticed that I'm a bit of a Pirsig buff, and so to be
blunt, I'm just being selfish. I noticed that all I seem to do lately is
reply to posts with "well that's not what it says in the books!" which
made me wonder when it was agreed that the MOQ needed to be changed so
much. Then I started to see assumptions being made that didn't seem to
come from Pirsig. So I thought it would be good to understand whether
false assumptions had led to erroneous interpretations or if they were
implicit and I just couldn't see them.

So I put together a long post questioning the source of some basic
assumptions about the MOQ but then, after reading some recent posts,
felt that it wasn't what the forum was up to these days and that I would
be going over old ground. In other words, there is a lot of philosophy
on the forum and I want to do a bit of philosophology!

So, Matt, this was not really aimed at you, your recent posts just
represented the general direction of the forum ("strong misreadings",
comparisons, colligations etc), and I agree when you say that people
should do with Pirsig's ideas what they will. At the moment I'm just
more interested in a bit of good old detailed textual analysis (which I
know can get a bit tedious) and I'm unsure if it is something
appropriate to online discussion groups anyway.

So don't think that I was storming off with my bat and ball, I just
think it may be better to lurk for a while and come up with some areas
of the MOQ that I think are the most ambiguous/hard to understand/easy
to misinterpret and bring them back for discussion in bite-size chunks.

In the meantime, I won't be getting into discussions where I end up
telling Scott that he shouldn't be colligating Pirsig and Barfield!

    Cheers

    Paul
