Matt is fond of linking Platt's view with mine, but we actually have very
little in common and this case highlights the difference. We both dislike
Rorty, but it is usually for different reasons. Platt tends to stress
morality and likes to voice the angry-white-guy conservative objections.
Matt replied:
Actually, I agree that both of your crticisms come from different places
(and that the two of you especially disagree on politics), but I link the
two of you as a rhetorical clue: you may come from different places, but I
think the consequences are generally the same.
dmb says:
As a rhetorical clue? Because the consequences are the same? Like what? We
both hurt your feelings, so its all the same to you. Its amazing what the
razor sharp discernment of the philosophical mind can produce. First you
admit that you're fond of linking us just to irritate two critics at once,
and then you pretend that its really a clue to some hidden brilliance on
your part. Oh, brother. Are you for real? I've heard that ego gets in the
way of enlightenment, but apparently it can also get in the way of something
as basic as a good conversation too.
