Thanks for providing a wonderful example of how liberals apparently cannot
help but argue by character assassination and personal abuse, indicated by
caps in the following from your hero, Tom Robbins:
"America is a young country, and intellectually, emotionally, and
physically, it has been exhibiting all the characteristics of an
ADOLESCENT BULLY, a PUBESCENT PUNK who’s TOO BIG FOR HIS
BRITCHES and TOO STRONG FOR HIS AGE. Someday, perhaps, we may
grow out of our MINDLESS, PIMPLE-FACED ARROGANCE but in the
meantime, it might do us a ton of good to have our butts kicked.
Unfortunately, like most of the targets we pick on, Iraq is much too weak
to give us the thrashing our continuously OVERBEARING behavior deserves,
while Saddam is even less deserving of victory than Bush. Don’t get me
wrong—I don’t want American soldiers killed. But I don’t want Iraqis
killed, either. I’m just not ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE who believe that
American lives are more valuable than the lives of others.
Note the complete absence of facts or evidence to support what amounts to
little more than a unpleasant emotional outburst.
Relevant to our discussion, you may be interested in the following Letter
to the Editor I wrote and that appeared in my local paper not long ago:
"The hypocrisy of liberals never ceases to amaze.
"When accused of being anti-American and unpatriotic, they whine and moan
that their free speech rights are being violated.
"But then they'll turn around and jump all over anyone who says something
they disagree with by calling them names like insensitive, intolerant and
stupid, not to mention racist, sexist and homophobic
"Liberals who invented political correctness have a long list of thought
crimes which they don't hesitate to accuse others of committing. They're
always demanding apologies, or worse, for some supposed speech offense.
"It's high time you liberals got a taste of your own medicine. You don't
like being called unpatriotic? Tough. Those who live by name-calling die
by name-calling.
