Au contraire! Politicians pander to the masses, else they could not be
elected. It is precisely this "Give 'em what they want" mentality that is
destroying the Republic.
If I may? The prevailing sentiment - that all politicians are corrupt, so
why punish any of them - allows politicians to be corrupt, dishonest,
panderers, etc.

I believe it was C.S. Lewis who said that if a society is on the wrong
track, the true progressive is the one who realizes it and turns back to
where the wrong turn was made. I'll attempt to find the exact quote if you
like.
