Agreed, I rather like Aquinas myself,
my comment is about the overall tendency,
there are contra examples both ways.
Catholicism in fact lost much of its openness
in response to the Protestant return to the word of God
I believe, despite the benefit of Protestantism's
new individualism, via the Renaissance, of course.
