    Hi Dan,

What I was asking was that all wars, for example, are really for a
greater cause - Money and/or Power. Thus, murder for capitalism.

    msh says:
It's not just countries with capitalist economies, by any means. The
elite decision makers within China and the former Soviet Union are
and were guilty of deadly aggression in the maintenance and
projection of their power. Russia today is in the midst of a brutal
power struggle in Chechnya, now in its fourth year, and is amassing a
record of horrendous human rights violations, including mass murder
of civilians. But I think you're right in that the root causes of
such aggression seem always to be the pursuit of power and profit for
a relatively small segment of the aggressor nation.

Someone mentioned when a bear attacks a hunter. My question is WHY is
this bear being hunted? Once the hunter kills the bear he'll take
it's hide and sell it (most likely).

    msh says:
Yeah, that was me talking about the bear. And if you are asking me
why hunters hunt for reasons other than survival, I have no idea.
Boredom, I guess. A need to dominant and kill? They like loud
    noises? Ya got me.

...once we "liberate" Iraq from it's "oppressors" the USA will use
the death of the soldiers and civilians as "The Cost of Freedom"
cause. (Which, IMO, is absolute crap)

    msh says:
    IMO, too.

    dan said:
The truth is the USA will then establish an embassy and military
bases for the sole purpose of oil (ie: financial gain).

    msh says:
Well, oil's certainly a part of it. But also to gain a broader
military foothold in a strategically vital part of the middle east,
from which further adventures may be launched.

    dan said:
Yet we say it's for the good of society, or "killing the germ before
the germ kills the higher intellectuals".

    msh says:
Well not all of us, Dan. Not me. And apparently not you. There are
plenty of others who understand the realpolitik of the situation. We
just have to keep thinking and talking about it, and acting in
whatever ways we think most useful. When you're battling injustice,
no matter what the odds, there are two ways to go: Give up, in which
case things will certainly get worse; or keep fighting, in which case
there's a chance that things will get better.

    Best,
    Mark Heyman
