It is my interpretation of the 3th level that differs most from Pirsig's
one, I think. This level (consisting of patterns of behaviour that are
neither latched in the genes nor premeditatedly performed) isn't involved
when people formulate/motivate their ideas/actions rationally or
    irrationally.

    dmb says:
Your third level sounds a lot like instinct. I think you're only making a
distinction between biological processes and organisms and the behavior that
results. You're talking about biological level of consciousness. I mean,
lots of animals exhibit innate behaviors that can't be located in the genes
or any other biological structure. A baby chick, for example, will hide from
a hawk but not a sparrow. How does it 'know' the difference? Its not in the
genes and its not premeditatiedly performed, so by your critera a little
yellow chick is a social level creature. That's just silly. Plus it leaves
us in the same SOM soup, without a distinction between science and myth,
    intellect and traditon.

I'm convinced you've made this move in order to make sure there is no
important difference between intellect and your religion. But I don't think
we even to need refer to Pirsig at all to see that they are very different.

Nothing personal, Wim, but I get very tired of the various alterations to
the MOQ. Yours is no exception. I've yet to see one that made any sense, let
alone actually came close to making an improvement. Why would anyone want to
change the metaphysics of another, anyway. Why not just accept it or reject
it as it is and stop confusing things by using Pirsig's terms for your own
ideas. Its rude, rude, rude. Its like shouting numbers while another is
trying to keep count. And the most infuriating thing is that these attempts
never seem to be motivated by the wish to improve the MOQ, but to make it
fit some personal tastes. PLUS, I don't understand the attitude that allows
people to think they could compete with Pirsig. Seriously. Can you explain
that to me, please? How is it possible for you to think that you can out
think Pirsig? Must be a cultural thing, I guess. I'm shocked and offened by
that level of confidence. If I assumed such an attitude in front of anyone I
know, they would only laugh. But if I persisted, they'd punch me in the
    nose.

How do you remain unharmed? ;-)
