Hi Mark M,
Although you don't seem like someone who is easily discouraged, I
hope you will not be deterred in your studies by Platt's response to
your last message.
The main thrust of your post is right on, and all the points you made
can be substantiated. The facts are that American business leaders
and policy makers were VERY cozy with the Fascists, right up to the
point at which Hitler and Mussolini started attacking American
business interests. Then the tide turned, with a vengeance.
And it makes sense, from a business standpoint. Fascism and big
business go hand in hand, from the totalitarian structure of
corporations, to state supported business subsidy, state adventurism
and market/resource expansion, state intervention in crushing labor
movements. It's a match made in heaven.
Anyway, keep reading and thinking, and just remember you will
encounter people who are ideologically and psychologically incapable
of understanding what you are saying, who will tell you you are
simply wrong or crazy or worse (with no argument or evidence, of
course). No amount of argument or evidence on your part will change
such people. You will, however, find plenty of folks who are
receptive to new ideas, even ideas critical of their dearly held
beliefs, because such people, like you, are truth seekers.
Thanks again for the post.
Best wishes,
Mark Steven Heyman
