Hi Wim, and all,
Wim, you were right to disagree with my statement of 05/24. It comes
off as way to concise and preachy, something I tend to do when making
a point, and I'm glad when people call me on it, sort of. ;-)
I do want to keep generating some interest in this subject, The Moral
Evolution of Society, which has sort of fallen by the wayside.
I believe we had some minor consensus that at least one of my
suggested immoral institutions, corporations as they exist today, may
well qualify. If not, I'm sure others will let us know.
Any thoughts on the rest of the list?
ii1) A law against smoking crack
ii2) A law against assisted suicide
ii3) A law against same sex marriages
ii4) Laws granting human rights to corporations
ii5) Corporations themselves
ii6) Capital punishment
ii7) Prisoner torture for information
ii8) Use of public airwaves for private profit
ii9) Selling life-saving medical services for private profit
ii10) Selling life-sustaining services for private profit
(Water, air, subsistence food, clothing, shelter)
And here are more, suggested by Platt Holden:
Income taxes
Social Security
Medicare
Welfare
Government regulations
Fiat money
Any thoughtful ideas or comments will be appreciated, keeping in mind
that we are talking about morality in terms of the MOQ, not in legal
or religious terms. This will make communication much easier.
Best to all,
Mark Steven Heyman (msh)
