    gav to gav,
diet wise i am in between. recently i went on a
cleanse, eating only fresh fruit and veg, nuts and
grains for a month and the effect on my mental state
was profound. i seemd to have more time, was more
focussed, relaxed and articulate. since then i have
lapsed back into meat, intoxicants, refined foods etc
but not overly so. the unbalancing effects have been
    noticeable however.
lifestyle wise i am moving more towards sattva. i used
to be more rajas: highly competitive in study, work
and play. now i enjoy solitary activity more, and i am
less quick to judge myself or others (which are the
same thing of course). not perfect but definite
    improvement.

the point i am making with this quasi-poll is simple:
it is not enough to 'get' pirsig or eastern
philosophy. it is a great help and a headstart towards
    contentment but without concurrent diet/lifestyle
    modifications further progress becomes difficult.
remember body is an aspect of Mind also.

until a high quality, predominantly vego, chemical
free diet is the norm, progress will be impeded. until
    lifestyle moves from overwork to balanced work/play;
from 'thinking divorced from doing' to complementary
study/exercise of knowledge; from competition to
co-operation (remember the tao te ching: 'above all do
not compete')....then we will have difficulty moving
beyond the antagonistic, paranoid and self-defeating
model of life most of us now endure.

and this is no hollow threat, no empty caveat....it
is predicted that within 3-4 generations sperm count
in western males will be effectively zero, if decline
continues at the present rate. ahhh good old natural
    selection :-)
