Hugo,
I am replying to just you. I got a kick out of you calling me Dough,
that's all! I am Doug, not Dough! It is funny to me, because in our
language and culture dough has some funny colloquialisms:
dough - that stuff we make bread, rolls, and pastry from
dough - money, usually with a gangster-kind of connotation
I think there are others like soft, squishy, compliant, etc. The
Pillsbury (a baking company) Doughboy is a cartoon character made of
dough. He is cute and cuddly -- that also made me laugh. I have never
been described (a la Pirsig's 'reflections' as cute and cuddly) :-).
As I perceive myself, I am none of these. As a result, you gave me a
new potential perspective of myself, thus I laughed and laughed. It was
very good for me, and I thank you.
But please, to allow me to keep my given-name, call me Doug.
Hugo, I like your perspectives. Your views are fresh and free and
happy. I fear mine are often stilted and analytical.
Many truths to you,
Doug Renselle.
