I have never read anything correlating Freud's drug use with the development
of his psychology, other than the fact he was a cocaine user who, if memory
serves, kicked the habit prior to the publication of most of his work.
Perhaps the cocaine worked as a stimulant to allow him to be more productive.
If I was asked to choose which of Freud's contemporaries had been influenced
by drugs I might have guessed Jung, because of his introduction of the
"Mythos" into psychology, but Jung was not known as a drug abuser. During my
coke-induced highs many years ago there was only one realm of import: getting
her from the dance floor to the bedroom...the big S-E-X was all that
mattered, and unfortunately my batting average would not have qualified for
the minor leagues. But now that I think about it, Freud+cocaine=sex, maybe
Andrea is right after all!!!
