Weve been over drugs in the past, right? What i came to conclude thru the
discussion was that drugs do in fact give you Dynamic Quality, but cannot
provide any kind of a static latch to advance yourself with it. So you have
a DQ experience, but return to normal within the next few hours. The DQ isnt
advancing you in any way. When Pirsig discussed peyote, he was mainly
talking about it as a way to subjectively understand Native American
cultures. Peyote was the medium thru which they experienced their spiritual
journeys, and for an anthropologist to grasp the significance of these
spiritual journeys, she would have to be influenced by it. Drugs are
biological quality, they make a person feel good. Social patterns currently
try to dominate drugs, but are unsuccessful for the most part. I do think
that drugs should be legalized (some of them, anyway), and that legislation
should be passed in order to limit use, the same concept as intoxication
laws.
