Hi John B. and All:

Thanks John for the reference to the article by Dan Huff on Quantum
Consciousness. It is an excellent (and funny) report on the latest
consciousness studies by some eminent scientists and scholars. For
those interested, the report can be found at:

http://www.consciousness.arizona.edu/hameroff/Weekly_article.htm

Most interesting to me was that several of the leading lights in
consciousness research--David Chalmers, Stuart Hameroff and Roger
Penrose--have speculated that "consciousness is a kind of
fundamental constituent of reality" and "a basic building block of the
universe."

In other words, consciousness exists in the environment. Or, as the
Penrose-Hameroff model suggests, "microtubules within the brain's
neurons link cognition with proto-conscious experience and Platonic
values embedded in spacetime geometry." "The basic idea," Hameroff
says, "is that consciousness involves brain activities coupled to self-
organizing ripples in fundamental reallity."

>From the MOQ viewpoint, Hameroff's "self-organizing ripples" could be
symptomatic of DQ. Similarly, it's not too far fetched to think of proto-
consciousness in spacetime as indicating the presence of DQ (which
also transcends spacetime).

In my explanation of consciousness I stressed that just as the bodily
organs such as the lungs and stomach draw in and utilize life
sustaining material from the environment, so the brain draws on DQ to
create inner experience. To see a resemblance between my
interpretation of the MOQ as regards consciousness and the
speculations of some of the leading researchers in the field is
encouraging. Of course, science types must climb out of their cause-
and-effect, seeing-is-believing box before than can entertain the idea
that consciousness as a basic building block of the universe and DQ
are perhaps connected.
