RASHEED
. This attack was performed by citizens of this country, which should be
the scariest part of it. There are thousands of terrorists (Muslim and
otherwise) who are citizens of this country.

Rasheed, have to correct you on this one - if I am not mistaken, all of the
attackers were arab nationals, that is, not citizens of the US. The worst
citizen terrorist that I know of was Timothy McVeigh. What might give one
pause for thought is that as far as I know, you do not have to be a citizen
to join the US military forces.

RASHEED
This war on terrorism is similar to the war on drugs, the only difference
being that because of our need to have a clear-cut enemy, we use Bin Laden,
whereas in the drug war, we have no one to put the blame on. The war on
drugs certainly didnt end when Carillo Fuentes or any other drug lord was
killed, and i have a feeling that the war on terrorism will take the same
path.

I agree with you to some extent, but will say that it seems to Bin Laden has
been so effective because he is able to get groups to work together towards
a common goal. Plus all the money, of course. I'm willing to risk making him
a martyr because I believe that the terrorist network will not work as well
without his leading them and may in fact disentegrate back to somewhat
opposing factions. One of my freinds has put this best, this should not be a
war to eliminate terrorism, it should be a concerted effort to manage it.
Which I guess means that it never ends.

RASHEED

about this: the average salary for a pilot is

welfare. Can you stomach the thought that when you are on a plane, the guy
entrusted with your lives and the lives around you, might be on welfare?

wEEpy's reply

Not sure where you got that 13,000/year salary number, but it seemed
patently ridiculous, so I did a little researching to see what I could find.
>From the Workforce NJ website (which might be out of date):

"Commercial pilots with major airlines are some of the highest paid people
in the work force. The average salary in 1993 was about $80,000. Some
related average salaries were: Senior Pilot - $87,558
        Co-Pilot - $49,725"
>From an article about Lufthansa:

"Currently, a Lufthansa captain in his final four years makes 335,000 marks
per year ($159,000), while a senior first officer gets 176,000 marks
($83,800). The union wants salaries to increase to 477,000 marks plus an
additional 119,000 marks--based on the company's financial performance..."

Seems pretty conclusive.
