You seem to be addressing both Platt and me, but i can't be sure. Rumor is
that he had to cut off his discussion with you to go out and shoot a dog, so
i thought I would jump in.

Did you guys actually ever read a Fromm book? '....I believe that if you read
Fromm you will understand a lot more of
yourself and certain ideas and their moral 'validity'.

So much reading to do and so little time.... I am a prolific reader, but,
like all of us, I am forced to prioritize. When it comes to socio-economics
I decided to prioritize my reading based upon current influence in the world
and quality of life in actual practice. Starting with the best (free
enterprise global economies), I have made it as far as "serfism", and soon
hope to get to the real losers "hunter gathering" "nomadic barbarism",
Nazism", eventually...at the bottom of the heap, I will get to "Marxism."
Please be patient.
Seriously though, does it ever occur to pseudo-intellectuals to actually test
their theories? Oh, thats right, I forgot about those shining beacons of
hope.... North Korea and Cuba.
Marxism is an ignorant philosophy of absurd ideals and confused assumptions
that is the greatest failure of philosophology in the history of mankind.
But other than that I like it. Please feel free to test new versions of it
in the Netherlands, and I hope it eventually succeeds. Certainly you can't do
any worse than the other barbarous attempts to violate the free spirit of man
and to ignore the concept of "complex adaptive systems." (Wonder if Fromm
wrote much on that?)
If -- no, when -- your Netherlands experiment fails, the free democracies
will bail you out (much to your later resentment, but that's OK, they (ie the
rest of us) will also have produced a new technology to allow the
simple-minded survivors to communicate a new plot toward social-economic
de-evolution.

I'm beginning to believe that every leftist opinion in your eyes is immoral
per definition! I know that 'left' means something different in the US as
here in W-Europe(the Netherlands at least!), but why the ressentment?

I can't speak for him, but I certainly respect leftist, liberal positions. I
think Marxism is goofy, but I have no qualm with the Democratic left. See my
responses yesterday to Wim.
