Rob,

Yes, this is a quality observation. I propose the
people on this list should start to talk in MOQ
instead of SOM. On this list we hear a lot of "this is
right, this is wrong" but in reality the MOQ way of
talking would be "this is more quality because" etc.
I propose an MOQ grammar. To start this proposal,
there is first 2 ways of talking "statically":
statically and dynamically. To talk statically a mark
of [sq] should be used. To talk dynamically, a mark of
[DQ] should be used. We could work like HTML and use
[/sq] to end it. Really though we would just need
[DQ]and [/DQ] to talk about something "dynamic",
something "shown". We can assume it is static
otherwise. Here's an example: [DQ] lay down in the dew
of the grass on a morning [/DQ].
As for morals, there are 5 levels, so for some things
there could be 5 quality statements. As you said,
"might makes right" might be moral for the
"inorganic/biology" level. People should "frame" the
question when they talk about morals so we know what
level it is on. We could just use a roman numeral: I
II III IV V. You can change the syntax to what you
want but it seems it would help with a lot of
confusion on this list. We need to talk in MOQ. Maybe
we can come up with an MOQ language. An example: [III]
Might makes right [\III] That way you are understood
in the MOQ that you are talking "biology/inorganic"
codes.
Finally, what about "intra-level" ethics? Pirsig is
clear on ethics between levels: the higher level has
to control the lower level. But what about question
within a level? This is where Pirsig uses the term
"force." There is an organizing "force" for each level
it seems. "Sex" is the organizing force for biology.
"Celebrity" is the organizing force for social. I
don't know the other forces for the other levels.
Maybe someone can help here.
Angus
