I like this distinction. I would go one further though
and say that each individual's map can be infinitely
warped and perverted. My map may say a big mountain is
over there and yours might say that a small mountain
is in the same spot. A map is an interpretive tool and
as such is open to each person's own sense of meaning.
When we discuss we begin to get a value of how our
maps are different. In the course of discussion we eek
out the "differences" in our maps and thus are able to
communicate. The differences remain though. The
territory on the other hand is I suppose "Quality" and
is undifferentiated. Coming to the reality that most
of what you perceive is warped by an arbitrary map is
Pirsigian.
