Hey Rick,

RICK:
I would guess that Pirsig would associate notions of freedom directly with
Dynamic Quality itself and not Intellectual Quality... (Unless you were just
talking about 'political freedoms' like speech, press and assembly.)

ERIN:
I chose freedom first for the similar idea behind your suggestion "Better to
learn from experience than custom.". I think it intellect frees because you
see that a lot of "thinking" is just custom and this "thinking about thinking"
seemed like freedom to me. But I think you may be right that it captures DQ
better than the intellect level. For the intellect level I think that I prefer
my schema suggestion now (NOTE to DMB I am not certain that schemas are amoral
yet because schema says it is a pattern imposed on reality it does not say
what makes up this pattern so it may be VALUE pattern)

But the idea of freedom has been interesting me. I was wondering if you had
some thoughts about this.

PIRSIG:
The hippies had in mind something that they wanted, and were calling it
"freedom," but in the final analysis "freedom" is a purely negative goal. It
just says something is bad."

RICK: Better order over chaos,
Better freedom over order.

ERIN: 1)So if "better freedom over order" why is it a "negative" goal?

 2) How are you conceptualizing freedom in your quote?
