I agree, it is all speculation. But it's reasonable to point out that the
major German mistakes (eg lack of winter equipment, abuse of the other slavs
(Ukrainians), the strategic decision to head for the Caucasus rather than
concentrate on Moscow etc) all happened before December 1941. It then
becomes at the least a matter for judgement as to whether the Nazis would
have been able to turn the tide if there hadn't been some aid coming from
the West, but (going from memory, it's been a while since I studied it) the
total amount of materiel provided to the USSR was pretty small compared to
their total production.
Not sure I should have got involved in this discussion though.... Perhaps
I'd better stick to drafting my paper on mysticism and the development of
the MoQ.
