Hi Rog,
I can't get a handle on whether you are beong antagonistic' or truly
inquisitive... so I'll assume the latter.
The reason I may have attacked yours and others sentiments, is that they
seem to have little originality, they are simply the regurgitated soundbites
of the ultra conservative right wing facets of American government.
They neatly fit in with the perception many Europeans have of the gung-ho
yanks... myself included!!
Also I really do resent the notion that any criticism of Israel is somehow
anti-semitic, like racism, it is far too often used to rebutt fair comments
on a sensitive subject.
Bush's current stance on the whole conflict seems to have little to do with
genuine concern for the palestinians, and more to do with the possible after
effects of a mid-east crisis, where the US as a major consumer of Arabian
oil will be one of the worse hit, seeing as the whole car/freedom gas
guzzling culture of the States depends so much on it.
This is not an attack on America, it is a desperate attempt of people to win
their freedom. Surely a high level MOQ situation.
Like Jason and Goliath, the palestinians are resorting to the only weapons
they have at their disposal when faced with the might of a US funded Israel.
Of all the nations in the world, I would have thought the Israeli's would be
able to sympathise with the plight of a people without a homeland,... but
yet again it seems it's a case of "I'm alright Jack"...
As to the accusations of "Orwellian" brainwashing, I doubt you will ever be
able to see beyond the fishbowl that is the US, until you and the majority
of your countrymen, decide to see and experience the outside world for
yourselves, instead of relying upon the media for all your sources of
experience.
Less than 10% of US citizens have passports, compared to over 80% of UK and
I guess the figure is even greater for mainland europe, I think this is one
of the reasons I would state as to the success and extent of manipulation in
the US.
