Scott,
Glad we agree diversity is good. I am still not clear why you thought the MoQ
would not be diverse. (consider Pirsig's distinction between philosophy and
philosophology(?) --which were you expecting?).
You are finding this forum diverse AND cultish--huh?
SCOTT: Scott:
The
collective is not an extension of the individual. It
is an utter rejection of the individual. The reason
is that the collective is a purely fictitious body
(groups of individuals do not act in truly collective
ways - there is simply too much diversity - only in
statistically observable ways - patterns of behavior)
and completely disregards individual as a
non-entities.
ERIN: I don't think collective has to be equal to uniform. I don't want to
statistically average every member to make ia fictitious universal member of
the collective.
Think of the family. The needs of one member are different from another
member.
A person can look out for his/her needs AND the other member's of the family
needs. They are not in opposition and they are not the same.
SCOTT:
Ergo, you act with/for the
group or you are out! Collectivism, pure and simple!
ERIN: First in a global community there is no "out".
There is no "president of the world" dictating what should happen either.
The different countries have different needs.
I do share your desire to keep the diversity but I would like to think it is
possible that you can have a collective morality and diversity.
I think my major concern is that a system may be disguised as for the
individuals but at the cost of diversity. Capitalism--mixed feelings.
I think it is for the individual and it is costing the world diversity!!
As for the collective morality being fictitious-- do you think the social
level is fictitious? you know the levels are patterns of VALUES?
We are a global community whether we want to ignore the fact or not.
We are individuals but as an individual my safety and freedoms are threatened
due to other parts of the globe.
Since others affect me as an individual then yes I do value them--hence a
collective morality.
