Elliot:
As time has progressed for me, using reason, things have changed. Stories
and ideas that were once a stretch to rationalize one day fit perfectly into
the world. How perplexing the tales of Don Juan once seemed, how
complicated and contrived Quality, how delusional devine love. but it all
falls together and rises into something greater, like grass growing perhaps.
reason, when exercised, does not build greater and greater walls about the
mind but rather becomes flexible. paradoxes fall away to greater
understanding. (eventually of course this understanding must itself fall to
non-attachment).
I already stated a metaphor of mine once, which i will repeat: An infant
crawls on the ground, in the dust, on its hands and knees. it builds
strength in its arms and in areas of its legs, seemingly getting only better
and better (and more acustomed to) (at) crawling. but behold, with the
strength developed while crawling the child stands, his point of view shifts
forever and his legs work in new and never before thought of ways. while we
must not become so accustomed to crawling that we never decide to walk, we
must first master crawling before we walk.
rather than accept the quotes you've given me as a counter argument for my
understanding, i will let them spin around in my head till i can realize
that both you and I are correct, that they are both of the single "taste".
as i understand it (or have said before i understood it to the degree i do
now) the only Truth is the one which holds all else true along side it (or
perhaps in a qualitative heirarchy, who knows).
although you say reason is not the way, here you are in this intellectual
forum, stating confusion over ideas, struggling (maybe even a little?) to
understand, to intellectualize, to point out paradoxes and the unreasonable
as if it were folly. you use the word and concept enlightenment as if it
were a goal. you and i are the same.
best of luck on your path,
may no goals side track you from your walking,
Elliot
