Dear 3WDave,

one thing. Trying to reach some consensus encompassing a majority of this
group, let alone a wider one, as to what the MoQ say's is completely
different issue.'
I don't think we're here to create consensus. 'Discussing the MoQ' implies
(in MoQish) a pursuit of BOTH the static quality of the MoQ as an
intellectual pattern of values, its stability, i.e. the repetition of ideas
on this list that recognizably have their roots in 'Lila', AND its Dynamic
Quality, its versatility, i.e. that we find ever more uses for it by
adapting it to our needs. As long as some core ideas are regularly repeated,
it is a pattern. As long as there are people utilizing it (and willing to
discuss it), it is stable. Its versatility is proved by -among other things-
our ability (as individuals) to solve problems arising in utilizing it.

I meant rather that the start of oral language TRADITIONS marked the jump
from social to intellect. According to Pirsig (ch. 30: 'In cultures without
books ritual seems to be a public library for teaching the young and
preserving common values and information.') ritual repetition of verbal and
other behavior was the link between the social and intellectual levels. Do
you still agree?
You replied to my:
'I'd put [the jump from biological to social] at some 2 million years ago
(the first hominids).'
with
'it could also be argued that there is evidence that other species also
develop these "strong habits" by "social
activities" within their own "cultures"'.
I'm fine with acknowledging a social level for other species also, if you
agree with my definition. I only said that the jump for humans was made some
2 million years ago.
With friendly greetings,
Wim
