Dear Wim
The Dr.Nusselder was with reference to Sherlock Holmes' standard phrase
"Elementary Dr. Watson". This old fool believes that Conan Doyle's work is
still known. Another illusion lost ;-(

An (one among many) intellectual pattern? No, it's THE intellectual level. All
of it, every last bit. And if I am going to demonstrate my idea it's premises
must be observed.

What a strange way to see things! This is my way (simplified): In the q-social
era when existence was dominated by the magic/mythical outlook there
emerged "scepticism". Doubt about the Gods and question if there wasn't
an OBJECTIVE reality behind that. Once this movement gained momentum
the old myths necessarily became SUBJECTIVE and the intellectual level
was born, yet "in the service of society". With this new outlook the Greek
states became superior to the still myth-steeped backward neighbours, there
suddenly emerged philosophy, sciences and art based on this new clarity of
mind.
Status among scientists isn't maintained by anything intellectual, intellect is
all about distancing itself from the subjective-status-interested reality, but (as
Pirsig shows in LILA) it's impossible. The scientists try to appear as seeking
nothing but objective truth, but it shows that personal achievements and
celebrity - a Nobel Price f.ex. - is part of their make-up which shows that
social value lurks under intellect - must do, will do forever.
> .... does it then belong
> to the social level or to the intellectual level?!?
As said , after the value of pursuing "...what is imperishable in the affairs of
men" (what is objectively true in contrast to subjective myths) had done
raised the Greeks states to fame and fortune it could no longer be controlled
by the state. The Romans inherited the old Greek mythology lamented the
loss of the golden age and by and by the mythical (social) reality got a revival
at the other end of the Mediterranian known to us as the Christian religion
(religion an unknown term to the classic age) but intellectual value made it
back with the Renaissance.
Your question is meaningless in this context. It belonged to the social family
until it became the intellectual level ...which in turn started its own family
and has grown a child (the Quality idea) that is now ...etc.
