Squad:

The recent discussion between Xcto and Glove on quoting Pirsig may help add
some clarifications on how we can make progress in reaching understanding and
even some consensus on the MOQ, and on this month's topic of defining DQ.

This month has been great for my personal understanding of MOQ and Dynamic
Quality. However, it also has led my thoughts in new directions. I believe
this is showing up in many of our posts. We are seeing progress on two
dimensions. Progress toward better understanding of the MOQ, which is defined
by Pirsig, and progress toward our own personal interpretations.

The dynamic interaction of the two is good and healthy. However, sometimes
the two can be confused, and it will seem that the more we discuss DQ the less
we can agree what it means. I guess I am suggesting the usefulness of
distinguishing between what is our personal or individual metaphysics from
what is the MOQ. We can move forward on both fronts, we can encourage
discussions on both levels, but once in a while we need to fall back on the
static latching of agreeing on a common interpretation of the MOQ.

Another way to characterize it is to differentiate between what you believe to
be truth, versus what you believe is a true interpretation of MOQ. For more
on the topic, look at Pirsig’s response to the Forum posting of "Does The
MOQ Value Its Own Extension"

One other major issue before I get off DQ deals with the issue of confusion
between "types of DQ definitions". The personal experience definitions versus
the quantum or event definitions. Similar to Walter, I do not see a
disconnect between the two in the MOQ. They are both just attempts to define
DQ from different levels of SQ.

DQ is the cutting edge of reality, whether the cutting edge of quantum
interaction—the event creating two static ‘particles’, or whether it is the
impact of an explosion that helps create static patterns known as a meteor and
the earth, or whether it is the cutting terror of pain as the leopard and
gazelle interact, or the sheer experience of a man and woman holding each
other in the warm autumn breeze and looking out at the ocean waves crashing on
the beach down below the craggy cliffs of Half Moon Bay.

Particles, explosions, leopards, gazelles, men ,women, waves, cliffs and bays
are all just patterns. DQ is the cutting edge of the quality event creating
these reality patterns.

I might be wrong, but I believe this to be an accurate reflection of the MOQ.
As you evaluate this, consider it on both dimensions…….whether you agree this
is a true interpretation , as well as whether you agree that it is true.
