ROGER REPLIES TO GLOVE ON MIND AND INTELLECT

Glove:

Thank you for clarifying my post. Your insights are appreciated. Let's
further the feedback loop:

GLOVE:<<<<<"I do agree with you that the mind is a tool, but it would be
improper to assign the intellect to the mind in my opinion, which you seem to
be leaning
 towards.">>>>>>>>

I agree, and didn't intend this. Intellect is a distinct emergent level of
which mind is just a necessary ingredient.

ROGER WROTE: <<<" The emergent higher level of Intellectual PoV’s includes
philosophy, science, metaphysics, logic and truth. SOM has been the dominant
intellectual truth.">>>>>>

GLOVE: <<" Roger, i disagree. i would place all philosophic, scientific and
religious
truths in the social level, not the intellect. these concepts all exist
because of the significance given to them by the ancient Greeks who were
operating in the social level. the intellect operates by destroying these
old social concepts and hopefully replacing them with something of higher
value. but the real reason this dance keeps dancing is Dynamic Quality.">>>

On page 14 of Subject, Objects, Data and Values, Pirsig states: "The block at
the top contains such static intellectual patterns as theology, science,
philosophy, mathematics." He then goes on to define social patterns as
"family, church and government."

Glove, I know this isn't much of an argument, but I believe your post is in
conflict with the MOQ. It may be right, but if so, I suggest we take this on
as an entirely new thread. As for the concern that these emerged in Greek
society, I respond that all Intellectual patterns float in a sea of Society,
which floats in a sea of Biology........

And remember...... All MY best ideas are written in crayon -- ever since they
took away my sharp objects.

Roger
