Hi Roger and everyone
Roger writes:
On page 14 of Subject, Objects, Data and Values, Pirsig states: "The block
at
the top contains such static intellectual patterns as theology, science,
philosophy, mathematics." He then goes on to define social patterns as
"family, church and government."
Glove, I know this isn't much of an argument, but I believe your post is in
conflict with the MOQ. It may be right, but if so, I suggest we take this
on
as an entirely new thread. As for the concern that these emerged in Greek
society, I respond that all Intellectual patterns float in a sea of Society,
which floats in a sea of Biology........
And remember...... All MY best ideas are written in crayon -- ever since
they
took away my sharp objects.
Hi Roger
this apparent conflict does cause me some consternation, truth be known. i
am attempting to reconcile it in some fashion without being in outright
disagreement with Pirsig. and i could be wrong as upward rain too, that is
as a distinct possibility as anything.
let me mull this over for the afternoon and perhaps after zazen an answer
may arise that is satisfactory to us both.
best wishes,
glove
